Hump Day

Well, I made it through Hump Day. So here's a summary of the week so far:

Monday
We finished up our work at BOCOG, collecting the last of our tickets. We bought lunch for the BOCOG staff--Pizza! My stomach was still churning from the terrible Tea House lunch we had Sunday. I had to make a few quick runs to the restroom, if you know what I mean. And BOCOG didn't spring for the nice toilets you can sit on. They just have a hole in the floor that you squat over. Apparently this is common here (to be fair, it was common in Italy, too.) AND you can't flush your toilet paper down the toilet, you have to put it in a trash can next to the toilet! Wouldn't want to be the guy whose job it is to go pick up that trash! Anyway, we spent a few hours at the office after BOCOG, getting set up, and then went out to dinner at the Steak Factory. I had a decent burger and a couple french fries. I just wasn't in the mood to be adventurous after the previous day's adventure had turned my stomach upside down.

Tuesday
Yesterday, we spent the day at the office, organizing, cleaning, ordering supplies, etc. I spent some serious time re-learning mail merges on Microsoft Word. Now I'm an old pro again. (Thanks to Sarah who taught me the whole thing in Torino.) It was just a little different on my Mac. We had lunch at Europa Cafe with some of the other staff from the Jet Set office, and my sea bass was delicious. I've been told not to eat too much fish because of the carbon content, but I don't know if that's just hearsay. We worked at the office until 8pm, when we went straight to the Saddle Cantina to celebrate Xenia's birthday. Xenia started working with us on Friday, but she has been with Jet Set for about a year working as a trainer for the local staff. She's from Greece, and she's a doll. The margaritas were strong and the tacos were decent, and a lot of the Jet Set team showed up. We had fun!

Wednesday
Today was a rough hump day, due in part to the strength of my second margarita last night. We worked in the office again. More supplies arrived, including our printer, which we got networked. We ate at a mediocre sushi restaurant near the office. We had staff meetings, prepared some operations plans, basic forms, etc. I completed my mail merge and printed the labels. Boring office stuff. After work, Jessica helped me take the subway home. For only 2 Yuan ($0.29) I rode 3 stops home, and the subway comes out right in front of my building. And all the signs are also in English so it's very easy to use.  Apparently, however, it's so crowded during morning rush hour that you may wait in line 30 minutes just to get into the subway. Maybe I'll try it tomorrow morning. I got back to the apartment to pick up my debit card (cue Hallelujah Chorus!) I went to the Citibank ATM to activate the card and get out enough cash to repay my coworkers' generous loans, and then I went grocery shopping. I found some dark chocolate that I can't wait to dig into. Now, after an hour at the pool and whirlpool, I am very relaxed and ready for bed. Goodnight.
