Sunday Funday

Sunday afternoon, I met Jessica and Max (her roommate) at a Fabric Market, where we picked out fabrics for clothing that we wanted to have made. The tailor there went with us to pick the fabric, and told us how much to buy based on what we wanted to have made. I bought fabric for 2 shirts: 1 white, 1 striped, a pair of shorts, and a pair of pants. I took a pair that I own that fit me well, and he will copy them exactly, 1 as pants, 1 as shorts. For the shirts, I took in a photo of a Prada dress shirt, and asked him to make my shirt look like it. In a week we'll go in for fittings, he'll make adjustments and in 2 weeks, I'll have clothing tailor-made to fit my body. I spent 270 RMB for the fabric ($39) and 340 RMB for the tailoring ($49.) For $88 I'm having 4 items custom-made! He also charged me 100 RMB  ($15) to tailor 3 t-shirts and 1 polo that I took in. He'll take in the sides and sleeves so that they fit me perfectly. When we finished there, we went to another tailor to do some fittings for clothing that Max ordered 2 weeks ago. The shirts were excellent, and we asked them to add darts to the back so that they would be even more fitted. Now that I've seen the quality workmanship the tailors can do here, I'm impressed and excited to see what they make for me!

I stayed in the Sanlitun area after the tailor, and I did a little shopping. I found a pair of Converse that say Chicago, Illinois on them. I bargained down to 140 RMB ($20.) Then I met my friend Case at The Tree for dinner, and met more of his ex-pat friends, most of them studying Chinese here at Bei Da University. His friend Jenn told me she'll take me to a good place for Korean Barbecue!
