The Grossest Day Ever

After Sunday's beautiful day, Tuesday was a big disappointment. Here's a picture of the same view from the same window (some of the big smudges are window dirt,) and you can hardly see a half mile away. Obviously, there's a lot of concern over the air quality with the Olympics looming so near. This week was the worst smog I've seen since I arrived.

I was hopped up on Advil and Clarinex today, and I'm so glad my doctor filled a prescription for me before I left (On the other hand, I've been so exhausted, I haven't needed any of the Ambien he gave me.) Xenia brought in a Chinese herbal treatment for colds, and she and Rohre (a Dartmouth student who joined our team a couple weeks ago) both swear that I'll feel better in another day. I confess, I do feel a little better already. Our local staff had a party to attend tonight to celebrate their graduation from Jet Set's Training Academy, so we got to leave the office before 8! Ema (a recent Northwestern grad who started last week in our department,) Adam (my roommate,) Joey (who started last week also) and I went to China World (a mall) for dinner at The Taj Pavilion. (WOW, that was a lot of parentheses!) For about $80 USD including drinks, the four of us had a delicious Indian meal of samosas, saffron rice, buttered Naan bread, and several different chicken dishes. We followed that up with a visit to the mall's Coldstone Creamery. Aren't you glad I'm experiencing so many new and exciting things?

At the end of every day, I feel greasy and slimy, whether it's from hauling boxes around my office, riding the elevator with 15 people (I realized I'd been here a while when I caught myself using my bag to push a girl onto the elevator yesterday so that I would fit,) or crowding onto the packed subway to get to and from work. I've come to enjoy my evening shower as a relaxing prelude to sleep. So it's Friday night at 11pm, and I'm really looking forward to cranking up the air-conditioning and cuddling up under my down comforter for a good 9 hours of sleep! Unprecedented!
