A Weekend in Vancouver with Mom & Dad

This weekend was all about the food! When Mom & Dad arrived Thursday, I took them for lunch to PHAT (Pretty Hot And Tasty)for Montreal smoked-meat sandwiches. We've been eating here all the time since I arrived, and I used my VIP card to get us pre-Olympic pricing! I had a Reuben sandwich--delicious!

Friday we ate dinner at Habit (see previous post.)

Saturday night Mom & Dad cooked dinner at the apartment and I came home to home-cooked chicken, creamed corn, mashed potatoes, salad, bread, and butterscotch pudding. It was like being in Millbury again! The Germany-Belarus game was very exciting, with 5 points being scored in the 3rd (final) period if I recall correctly. Mom & Dad went to bed, and I met some of the guys out for a few.

Sunday, Mom & Dad met me for lunch and we went to a little storefront here in Yaletown for palateable food served by incompetent servers. Fortunately, I'd made a reservation for Sunday dinner to treat my parents to Coast, recommended by many people. After work, I went home, we all got dressed up a little nicer, and caught a cab out front. Here's what we ordered: We shared the Signature Chilled Platter: 1/2 Chilled Atlantic Lobster, Jumbo Prawn Cocktail, Alaskan King Crab Leg, 1/2 Dungeness Crab, Chilled Honey Mussels, Salmon Sashimi, Spicy Tuna Sushi Roll, Shucked Oysters served with orange-horseradish marmalade, house-made cocktail sauce, COAST seafood sauce. I had a glass of Argentinian Malbec, raw ahi tuna with lychee, cilantro, sesame oil; Lobster Sushi Roll; Dad had Yellowfin Ahi Tuna caught by Aloha Kai captained by Jeff Rogers and New England Chowder with manila clams, double smoked bacon, potatoes. Mom had the Sable Fish caught aboard the Miss Venus captained by Jay Gold on a bed of spot prawn risotto with asparagus spears. Isn't your mouth watering?

Walking home from the restaurant (we had some calories to work off) we walked through Robson Square, where we happened to be right on time to catch the fireworks/zipline/laser show that must happen every night. The crowd was electric, most of them dressed in their Canada gear, as the US had just finished beating Canada in hockey. Through the crowd, I spotted my friend Ema, who had worked with us in Beijing, and we caught up briefly and exchanged numbers! So good to see her and can't wait to see her more this week!

Okay, I'm officially hungry now. Sounds like there are some good eats up in British Columbia. Tell Dick and Barb I said "hello."
